Flags Across America Artist Chooses Nashville VFW Post For Mural #43

5 Stars To Be Added Honoring Four Marines And Sailor Killed In Chattanooga

  • Wednesday, July 29, 2015

Flags Across America artist, Scott Lobaido will arrive at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1970 located at 7220 Charlotte Pike, to begin mural #43 on Friday.  Mr. Lobaido is an artist with a mission to honor those who serve our country, through his gift of art.   With the help of his friend, retired Special Forces Medic, Art Salisbury, and sponsorship from the Home Depot, Behr Paint, as well as many others, Mr. Lobaido is working his way across the United States, leaving his gratitude on the canvas of VFW and American Legion buildings in every state.

While each of Mr. Lobaido’s paintings hold meaning, the mural chosen for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1970 in Nashville will have a greater meaning as he has added an special design element.  Mr. Lobaido originally had Colorado slated for Mural #43, but in light of the recent killing of innocent life in Chattanooga, Mr. Lobaido has decided to make Mural #43 a dedication to the five Marines and Navy men killed while doing their job.  Mr. Lobaido will add five stars to the mural, honoring the memory of these brave men.

The Home Depot will arrive Thursday to prep and paint the front exterior of VFW Post 1970, creating a clean pallet for Mr. Lobaido to begin his mural on Friday.  The dedication ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  All are welcome.

Commander Donald Webb of the VFW Post 1970 said, “What an incredible honor to be chosen as recipient of Mr. Lobaido’s gift to the American Soldier.”

Mr. Salisbury contacted Commander Webb via email with the news.  Mr. Salisbury writes, “Of all the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts of TN, your Post as been chosen as the Post to receive a US Flag mural painting on your post exterior by Patriot Painter, Scott Lobaido, during his Flags Across America 2015 tour.  In addition, Scott will be placing five stars in the painting for the five recent Marines and Navy men killed in Tennessee.”

The VFW Post on Charlotte Pike has seen a decline in membership, leading the commander to spend much of his time recruiting new members.  Commander Webb said, “In order to continue assisting the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, we depend on membership as well as donations. “The Flags Across America Tour 2015 has had and will continue to have national and local news/media attention, which could lead to a growth in our membership, not to mention a place where veterans can pay respect to their fellow comrades killed in Chattanooga.”
