Sunset History Tour by Kayak August 11
Join Outdoor Chattanooga and the
Chattanooga History Center for a beginner friendly,
guided kayak tour on the Tennessee River on
Tues., Aug.
11 at 7 p.m. We'll meet at Raccoon Mountain Boat Ramp and spend a couple hours on the river enjoying the scenery while Chattanooga History Center's Senior Educator, Caroline Sunderland, provides a historical narrative of the river gorge. Cost is $45 per adult and $35 for kids ages 14-18. All kayaking equipment is provided. Space is limited. Pre-paid reservations are required and must be made by

Rapid Learning Roll Class - Tonight, Wed., July 29
The
Rapid Learning Whitewater Kayaking Program will be at Chester Frost County Park every Wed. with two sessions:
6 and 7 p.m., just past the park swimming area. Interested members of the public can come to either session and try the program for free. If you decide to continue, you can join the program and access equipment and instruction all year round. To learn more,

Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga 2.4 mile Open Water Swim August 15
Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga will host a
2.4 mile open water-down river swim on the Tennessee River on
Sat., Aug. 15. This is not a race or a timed event. It is a piloted practice swim for those interested in swimming in open waters. Swimmers will board the Southern Belle River Boat located at Ross's Landing in Downtown Chattanooga at
7:30 a.m. and head upstream 2.4 miles. Swimmers will enter the water and swim down river, back to Ross's Landing. Cost is $60 per person. Registration deadline is
Fri., Aug. 14. Race check in starts at
6:45 a.m. and the swim starts at
8 a.m. on
Aug. 15. Lunch will be provided to volunteers and support boaters at
11 a.m. on the 3rd deck burger bar on the Southern Belle after the swim. Open water swimming is not for beginners. Only swimmers who are experienced open water swimmers should sign up and participate. To get registered,

Chattanooga Freedom Float August 15
Join Outdoor Chattanooga and the boating community for a
Freedom Float on
Sat., Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. in honor of and to raise money for the heroes who were injured and killed in the attacks in Chattanooga. We will put in at the
Tennessee Riverpark and float down to the Chattanooga Riverfront, where participants can stay to enjoy the
Riverfront Nights Free Music Series. Outdoor Chattanooga will provide shuttling to get all participants shuttled with their kayaks back to the Riverpark after the event is done. For more information, visit the

*Ocoee River Jam July 31-August 2
The 3rd annual Ocoee River Jam takes place this weekend (Fri., July 31 through Sun., Aug 2) at Dumpy's in Ocoee, TN. The event boasts a great music line up over the 3 days along with various food vendors and lots of activities for children during the day. Day pass cost is $12 and a weekend pass is $30. Proceeds from the event support the Boy's and Girl's Club of Polk and Bradley Counties, American Red Cross-Chattanooga and the Stanley Steamer paddling group.
