The Chattanooga Technology Council is hosting the 2015 CHATech Code Camp for Kids sponsored by Zycron, Aug. 3-7 at the Brainerd Recreation Complex. The free week-long event is open to children ages 12-16 from Chattanooga area high schools.
The program is part of CTC’s ongoing mission to build the talent pipeline and support the City’s technology workforce development initiative. ChaTECH Code Camp for Kids uses the Tennessee Code Academy’s curriculum to teach the basics of programming to registered students through hands-on creation of video games and web applications.
Instruction includes the use of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JQuery.
In addition to learning the Tennessee Code Academy’s curriculum as licensed by CTC, campers get real face time with professional programmers from the Chattanooga area. Volunteer IT experts will share information about their jobs, and opportunities in the computer science industry.
The free camp is made possible through financial support from Zycron, a major sponsor of the Chattanooga Technology Council. Zycron is a Tennessee-based staffing and consulting firm that employs more than 350-professionals across the country.
The company is led by Founder and Executive Chairman Darrell S. Freeman, a native of Chattanooga with a passion for education based on his personal experience growing up in this community. His desire to invest in public/private educational programs targeted towards underserved communities inspired him to reach out to the CTC.
“Obtaining a good education changed the trajectory of my life, and therefore the lives of my children, and their children to come. It is imperative that we invest in educating our youth now for the opportunities of tomorrow,” Mr. Freeman said.
Equipment for ChaTECH Code Camp is provided through assistance from Jason McKinney, deputy administrator of Education for the City of Chattanooga. The Brainerd ChaTECH Code Camp is one in a series of free programs being offered to community youth by CTC and its sponsors throughout the year.
