PlayCore designers Max Moody and Steven Dupree visited Bright School’s “Master Builders” summer camp this week to explain how playgrounds go from vision to implementation.
Bright School has partnered with Chattanooga company PlayCore to construct the last phase of an early childhood playground project which includes the addition of a central play structure, a “mountain lookout” over the existing stream and four swings. As a special treat, campers got to visit the under-construction playground for a sneak peek at the new equipment installation.
If you’ve visited the Bright School campus recently, you’ve noticed a transformation taking place. An open space near the Early Childhood Building is now home to the Augustus “Gus” Morgan McCravey ’01 Athletic Complex which includes a 200 meter track, high jump, lacrosse field and U-10 soccer field. Alongside the track, the Enchanted Forest Playground is a place of enchantment, mystery and discovery for Bright School’s youngest students - a place where children can make deeper connections with the world around them.
Campers learned how 3-D printers help designers take ideas from paper to final product. They also learned about safety, fall zones and the different types of surfaces available for playgrounds.
Bright School seeks to nurture the whole child, and a playground provides a space to develop the mind, body and spirit through outdoor play. Research has repeatedly shown that children who play outdoors regularly are happier, healthier and stronger.
