Blend together a 5,000 square foot fitness/wellness area with state-of-the-art team meeting rooms, varsity locker rooms, coaches’ offices, public restrooms and a large concession area able to handle fans viewing three sporting events simultaneously and one has the Powerhouse.
Collier Construction is putting the finishing touches on the new, 14,000 square foot fitness and wellness center at Chattanooga Christian School with the doors to officially open the first day of class, Aug.
12.
“The CCS community is excited about our new multi-purpose facility and we plan to have a wellness class in the Powerhouse during the first period of school on Aug. 12,” said CCS president Chad Dirkse who noted that the fitness area will be supplied with all new equipment including free weights, circuit weight and cardio equipment and a 20-yard sprint track.
“We will have student classes in the Powerhouse six of the seven academic periods Monday through Friday as well as faculty, staff and alums using the building for workouts prior to the start of the school day.”
Located between the football/soccer stadium and the softball/baseball complex, the Powerhouse was in the planning stages for two-and-a half years. Construction began in January and tentative plans are for a building dedication at the season-opening football game Aug 21.
“Members of our building committee took the steps necessary to provide space and equipment for our athletes and coaches in five sports (football cross country, softball, soccer and baseball) as well as the strength and fitness area, athletic training area, locker rooms and more,” Dirkse stated.
“At a cost of $110 a square foot I believe we have been good stewards with the money raised to provide our CCS community with what we need now and in the future, not wanting to say in five years we should have done something in a different way.”
The Powerhouse offers 1,150 CCS students (pre-K -12) along with faculty and staff with the space, proper facilities and equipment in the fitness and wellness areas to be used before, during and after school.
“Nearly three years ago we were committed to providing the CCS community with a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose athletic facility and I believe the Powerhouse is the answer to those plans and dreams,” said Dirkse.
