The Chattanooga Zen Group, in partnership with the Unitarian Universalist Church, will offer a series of three free classes as an “Introduction to Buddhism and Zen.” Each class will be self-contained, so that a student can attend one, two, or all three and each will include instruction in the basics of “zazen,” which is Zen-style meditation. It is not necessary to be able to sit on the floor; chairs will be provided for those who need them.
The July 15 class, “Dharma: The Compassionate Teaching” will feature Nyoze Nat Brown, a Zen priest who leads the Nashville Zen Center. The remaining classes, “Sangha: The Harmonious Community” (July 22) and “Zazen: The Heart of Zen” (July 29) will be facilitated by members of the Chattanooga Zen Group.
Each class will take place from 7-8:30 p.m.
at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3224 Navajo Drive, Chattanooga. Classes are free; however, donations to CZG and UU accepted. For more information, contact Janis Hashe at (423) 622-2862 or
