Lois Thompson
Lois Elaine Bennington Thompson, 88, died on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Soddy Daisy Healthcare in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, after a period of failing health.
She was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Red Lion, Pa., where she grew up. She also lived in North Carolina, Florida and most recently in Chattanooga.
She was a 1947 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s nursing program, earned a BS in Education from Millersville State College in 1958, and earned a master’s degree in education from Winthrop College in 1980. She worked as a school nurse, a hospital nurse, an emergency room nurse and finished her career as a nursing instructor/level coordinator at Presbyterian Nursing School in Charlotte, NC.
Lois and her husband Hayden enjoyed traveling, golfing and square dancing. She also loved to read, quilt, put together jigsaw puzzles and complete the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Hayden Thompson; her mother, Elsie Gohn Bennington and her father, Ralph Lindsey Bennington.
She is survived by daughters, Carol Lynn Hall of New Port Richey, Fl., and Susan Purvis of Hixson, and step-son, Stevan Thompson of Winterville, NC; grandchildren, Jennifer Greever, Brian Purvis, Tim Hall, Kristina Brandt, Amy Alley and step-grandchildren, Ken Thompson and Joanna Thompson.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.
