There was no hiding the fact that Cats and Rats, seniors and sixth graders, met on Thursday and unveiled themselves to each other. Even with masks as the method in which Cat and Rat pairs (or sometimes trios) became acquainted, the revelry was festive.
Masks of paper, felt, plastic, cloth, and papier mâché were decorated with glitter, ribbons, peacock feathers, beads, and fake flowers and jewels. Many took animal forms other than cats and rats; there were elephants, owls, butterflies, and Minions.
When each sixth grade Rat found her Cat, they went to the GPS Dining Room for the annual lunch planned by cafeteria manager Tom Goetz and his great staff.
Polka dot blue balloons and masks, of course, decorated the tables for the lunch of chicken finger, fruits, and cookies.
Afterwards, the Rats spun a bingo cage to retrieve balls printed with the number determining when the seniors will give their chapel talks. “Rats” of the Honor Council president, Student Council president, Partnership in Community president, and president of the Senior Class didn’t have to draw; their senior Cats will give their chapel talks in the first two weeks of school.
