Firefighters Respond To Structure Fire Tuesday Night

  • Wednesday, August 19, 2015

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a building fire at 2104 Fairleigh Street around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Captain David Brooks with Engine 4 said flames were visible on the backside of the building, which appeared to be an old, vacant church that had not been used in years. Captain Brooks said it appeared the fire was on the outside of the building, but the flames were spreading into the interior.

While some firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze on the outside, other firefighters forced their way inside through locked doors to keep the fire from spreading any further. Captain Brooks said it took the firefighters roughly 20 minutes to get the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

Most of the old building was saved, and an estimate on the dollar loss has yet to be determined. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Chattanooga Police, Hamilton County EMS and EPB also provided assistance.
