GPS students participating in the US Women's Soccer #SheBelieves campaign
There wasn’t a single member of the world champion US Women’s National Team on the GPS campus Wednesday morning. There were, however, a USWNT photographer and director of communications on hand to meet with Coach Patrick Winecoff, a number of players from the GPS 2014 TSSAA state championship team, and Head of School Dr. Autumn Graves.
The press corps from USWNT were shooting photos and video footage of the high school girls in support of the #SheBelieves campaign developed by the world champion players themselves. “As a team, we are always excited to be able to positively impact young fans, especially young girls,” said USWNT captain Christie Rampone. “Our fans have shown us how much they believe in us, and we believe in them, too. We want everyone to have that confidence on and off the field. The #SheBelieves initiative allows us to…encourage them to set high goals and strive to reach them no matter what the obstacles.”
In a letter to fans on the USWNT #SheBelieves website, the team members tell girls, “We want you to believe you can be the best: the best athlete, the best student, the best doctor, lawyer, teacher, writer. We want you to be the best you.”
Just to be a part of the USWNT campaign was a thrill for the GPS soccer players, who will be in attendance at Finley Stadium for the second stop of a victory tour that has the US team playing an exhibition match against Costa Rica.
