Robert Barksdale
Robert Davis Barksdale died on August 18, 2015, in Chattanooga.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1921, in Milan, Tn., and played football at Milan High School. He graduated from Milan in 1940.
Mr. Barksdale worked for Western Electric Company for 42 years, and he worked on Early Warning Systems in the North Atlantic in the 1960s. He left Western Electric to join the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II, and served in the Pacific Theater where he attained the rank of Sgt. Tech IV. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Western Electric. He settled in Chattanooga in 1953. A scout master for many years, Mr. Barksdale was awarded the Silver Beaver and served on the Boy Scout Board of Directors.
At his death, Mr. Barksdale was a resident at Hickory Retirement Home and was a member at Tyner United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Betty Jo Barry Barksdale; and his parents, Guy Barksdale and Iona Davis Barksdale.
He is survived by a son, R.D. (Cindy); Barksdale, Jr; two granddaughters, Kate (Jarrod) Luna and Rachel (Josh) Wilson; and two great-granddaughters, Riley and Reese Wilson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a brief graveside service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Highway 153 in Hixson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Tyner United Methodist Church, The Debit Retirement Fund, 6805 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, Tn., 37421.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga Tn. 37421.
