Chattanooga State’s fall semester begins Aug. 24. Energy and excitement have been building since the return of faculty who are eager to embrace the new school year and fill inquiring minds with the knowledge they will need to succeed in life. Additional excitement is in the air as the college officially opened its 50th Anniversary Celebration during Convocation with refreshments, a program, recognitions, videos, and a BBQ luncheon for all employees.

The Annual Convocation of faculty and staff is a time to greet colleagues, learn about new developments and programs, as well as the state of the college.

One of the highlights each year is the annual presentation of service awards to faculty and staff who work hard to contribute to student success. A special 50th Anniversary display in the Humanities lobby paid tribute to past faculty and staff members that have served the College.

During 2015, two employees reached the 35-year employment milestone. Admissions and Records Supervisor Susan Merriman offered her thoughts, “I have always believed in Chattanooga State and what we represent to this community. We have seen such tremendous growth, not only in the number of students and locations we serve, but our campus has become one of the most beautiful around. I am so excited to see what the future holds. I truly believe our greatest days are still ahead of us.”

Librarian Pam Temple has seen her role and that of the library change significantly in her 35 years. “The way we provide information today has totally changed. The library has been through two major renovations and two major systems implementations since 1980,” shares Ms. Temple, who adds with a chuckle, “it gives a whole new meaning to ‘on-the-job training’ let me tell you!” But, she also praises colleagues who she describes as “just as amazing and dedicated now as they were when I first arrived.” Ms. Temple feels fulfilled that her role at Chattanooga State allows her to make a difference in the lives of students who seek help with their educational needs.
