Kimberly May Minor
A Sevier county woman who accused a Cleveland officer of sexual assault is facing charges herself.
Kimberly May Minor, 31, (who also goes by Kimberly Cordell) appeared at SkyRidge Medical Center and reported that she had been the victim of a sexual assault on Thursday, Aug. 7. Ms. Minor then reported to the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) that she had been raped by Carlton Walls in Sevier County. Mr. Walls is an officer with the Cleveland Police Department.
Following that report, Sgt. Yvonne May with the BCSO contacted Assistant District Attorney General Andrew Watts to advise him of the complaint and seek guidance.
After consultation with District Attorney General Stephen Crump, Assistant District Attorney General Watts coordinated with the Bradley County Sheriff's Office and authorities in Sevier County and asked them to assume responsibility for the investigation.
General Crump contacted James Dunn, District Attorney General for Sevier County, and advised him of the situation. General Dunn then requested the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to investigate the allegations surrounding the alleged sexual assault.
Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation interviewed all pertinent witnesses and collected evidence relevant to the investigation. This evidence was reviewed by both General Dunn’s office and this office. After reviewing this evidence, and consultation with General Dunn, this office requested that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation present its findings to the Bradley County Grand Jury, which was conducting its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, the Bradley County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Ms. Minor with one count of a violation of Tenn. Code Ann. 39-16-502, false reports, a Class D felony. Ms. Minor was arrested Wednesday afternoon without incident by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Investigator Calvin Rockholt of the Office of the District Attorney General for the 10th Judicial District.
Her bond was set at $5,000 pending her appearance in Criminal Court for Bradley County.
