Bettye R. Johns was born on May 26, 1932, in Dora, Al., to the late Bert Miller and Flora Miller Walker. She died her residence, surrounded by her family on Saturday, Aug. 1, following a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mrs. Johns was a resident of Ooltewah for all of her adult life and worked at Collegedale Distributors, Apison’s County Line Grocery, and at the 4-Corners Trading Post for many years as well. Mrs. Johns was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, O. Gene Johns.
She is survived by her two children, Rhonda Johns of Ooltewah, and Perry Johns of East Ridge; grandchildren, Amber Lowry, Autumn Lowry Carusillo, and Rusty Lowry; great-grandchildren, Chester and Janet Bell, as well as two step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and step-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Judy Nolan of Alabama, and Sue Guthry of Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the Valley View Chapel with Rt. Rev. Mark W. Windon officiating. Interment will be in Sylar Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 4-8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
