A 43-year-old East Ridge man who ran his car into a Brainerd Road business and then fled the scene is scheduled to appear in Hamilton County Criminal Sessions Court on Wednesday.

Alpha Himayoro Sy, a native of Senegal who resides at 730 Germantown Circle, faces numerous charges. They include leaving the scene of an accident, failure to exercise due care, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving without a license and brake law violation.

Police learned a car had run into a business when they received a call from Salvatore Escovar, 36, Kors Appliances.

When officers arrived at 5948 Brainerd Rd., Salvatore Escobar said a black four-door car drove into the front of his business, backed up and fled.

They were summoned back to the scene, reports said, about two hours later when Mr.
Escobar called police to say that the hit-and-run driver had returned to Kors Appliances in a taxi.

Officrs who responded said Sy told them that he drove into the building because his brakes were not working, adding that after the wreck he went to his residence.

Police asked for his driver's license and he produced an international translation of a driver's license, according to court documents. Officers checked the back of the document, and then advised Sy that the translation he showed them always must be accompanied by an original driver's license.

They said Sy replied that he does not have a state-issued drivers license.

The incident marked Sy’s second arrest in less than a month. On July 2 he was picked up by East Ridge Police and charged with failure to maintain lane and driving without a license.
