Starting this fall, the Lee University website will allow visitors to watch every Conn Center chapel, athletic event, and most music concerts through expanded live video streaming.
“We have had considerable demand for streaming more of our events,” said Dr. Paul Conn, Lee University president. “So we have invested some money in better technology and will be upping our game in this respect. We want the public, whether local or around the world, to be able to enjoy more of our campus events."
According to Dr. Jeff Salyer, director of Media Services at Lee, streaming services have been expanded every year since the university started streaming events in 2008. All event streaming is overseen by the Media Services department and by Lee digital media majors.
“We think live streaming provides a glimpse of the excitement that our students experience on campus for our prospective students, alumni, community, and friends,” said Dr. Salyer. “At the same time, we are training students to produce high-quality content that will help them in their futures as digital media leaders.”
According to Dr. Salyer, there were over 150,000 views from six different continents during the recent streaming of Church of God’s Teen Talent event hosted by Lee.
The Media Services team has been preparing and working to facilitate the addition of streaming more events for this school year. Lee is partnering with the company Livestream as a video streaming provider, which has an app and a website where users can watch all streamed content from mobile devices or web browsers. On the Lee Livestream website, visitors will find lists of live events, upcoming events, and a large archive of previously streamed events.
