A man who was shot in July "in broad daylight" by a rival gang member with an assault rifle is now facing charges that include aggravated robbery.

Antwuan Stokes is charged in the robbery of marijuana dealer Antonio Beard at the Lookout Mountain Suites at 3210 Broad St.

In the incident on Aug. 8, Beard said a man he knows as "Big Toe" forced his way inside after knocking on the door of room 56. He said the intruder was armed with a gun and he told him to lie down.

Beard said the robber demanded money and marijuana. He said when the robber found he had only a user amount of marijuana that he took his laptop and cell phone.

Beard said he went to Howard High School with "Big Toe," whom he identified as Antwuan Stokes.

In an incident on Sunday, police responded to a hit and run accident on Hamilton Place Boulevard. Blake Garcia said his vehicle was struck by a black Nissan Sentra with three black males inside.

He said the vehicle was driven by a man with dreads wearing a black tank top. He said a second person in the vehicle was wearing a red shirt.

He said one of the men said they were going to an ATM to get money to pay for the damage.

An off-duty officer spotted a black Nissan Sentra in the parking lot of Walmart on Gunbarrel Road. It was noted that the vehicle was stolen. Officers detained a black male in a tank top and a black male in a red shirt nearby.

Police said Stokes was the one in the tank top. He admitted to driving the stolen vehicle and getting into the accident.

Stokes initially gave his name as Jeffrey Dewayne Stokes and signed a rights waiver with that name. He later admitted that is his brother's name.

In that case, Stokes was charged with theft over $10,000, criminal impersonation and forgery.

He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Stokes earlier said he was shot by Christopher Green. At the hearing in that case, Stokes said he is a Blood and the 18-year-old Green is a Crip.
