Douglas Mathis, 53, was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated assault after he pulled a gun on a man who confronted him on Lee Highway.

The victim said that he saw Mathis speeding up and down the road outside his home on Friar Road.

He said that he found the defendant in a nearby parking lot and walked up to ask him why he was driving so erratically.

The defendant then allegedly pulled a gun on the victim without saying a word and sped away.

The victim followed the car to the 400 block of Central Drive and advised police of where it was.

An arrest report says that officers made contact with the defendant in the home, but he refused to come out or show his hands. He then slammed the door.

After numerous commands to exit the house, the defendant eventually complied and was taken into custody.

Police found a silver handgun lying on the floor in the living room with a full magazine and a bullet in the chamber.

While being processed, the defendant told officers he had a small amount of methamphetamine in his front pocket.

His bond is set at $90,000.
