Cleveland State Community College Hosts Make A Difference Now Volunteer Expo

  • Wednesday, August 26, 2015

The Department of Service-Learning at Cleveland State Community College and G.R.A.A.B. Coalition (Going Respectively Against Addictive Behaviors) will be co-sponsoring the sixth annual “Make a Difference Now” Volunteer Expo on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium on Cleveland State’s campus.

"This is a terrific opportunity for our students to volunteer to apply what they are learning in the classroom to a local area of need,” stated Dr. Denise King, vice president for Academic Affairs. “What better way to make a positive difference where it really matters—here in our home community. We hope these lessons will remain with students throughout their lives, no matter where their degree path leads them.”

The theme of this event, “Make a Difference Now,” centers on Cleveland State’s desire to give students the opportunity to become civically engaged in their community by learning more about non-profit and civic agencies in the surrounding areas and finding out how they can volunteer. This expo allows students, faculty, staff and community members to interact with community agencies on an informal basis.

Sherry Holloway, Service-Learning director, said, “The 'Make A Difference Now' Volunteer Expo is a great way for the Cleveland State team to demonstrate dedication to service-learning and civic responsibility. We are excited for the opportunity to partner with G.R.A.A.B. Coalition as we welcome area nonprofit and civic agencies to our campus. We hope students, faculty, staff, and community visitors enjoy the event and find volunteer opportunities and community resources that meet their academic and personal requirements.”

Agencies wishing to register as participants, or for more information about the “Make a Difference Now” Volunteer Expo, contact Holloway at sholloway@clevelandstatecc.edu. This event is open to the public so that anyone in the community can learn about agencies and their programs, as well as how to volunteer.
