Brent Pickard, 46, was the man who was shot and killed by county deputies on Wednesday night after a chase ended on Highway 153..

Four Hamilton County deputies were placed on leave, pending the investigation.

At Pine Mar, Pickard crashed and shots were fired resulting in his death.

District Attorney General Neal Pinkston has asked Chattanooga Police to investigate the fatal shooting involving a pursuit from Old Lee Highway to Pine Marr Drive inside the city limits.

Pine Marr Drive is near the Highway 153 Kohl's.

The sheriff's office said, "Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched on a disorder call with a possible weapon in the Collegedale/Ooltewah area Wednesday night about 9:30.

"While sheriff’s deputies were in route to the location of the call, the suspect fled the scene in his car.  Sheriff’s deputies pursued the suspect and attempted to stop him several times, but he refused to pull over or stop.

"Sheriff’s deputies were finally able to stop the suspect in the 5900 block of Highway 153.  Once stopped, the suspect brandished a weapon at which time officers had to use deadly force to stop him.  No sheriff’s deputies were injured in this incident.

"Sheriff Hammond and District Attorney Pinkston determined that the Chattanooga Police Department would be the lead agency in the investigation of this incident with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office assisting."

Police had both lanes of Highway 153 blocked on Thursday morning while carrying out an investigation of the shooting.
