PointsMap And Wayfinder Lead The Way At Chattanooga State

  • Friday, August 28, 2015

In 2013, Chattanooga State began using new software to assist students and visitors as they find their way around the campus called PointsMap. The college has used this PointsMap software for the past several years, but just recently added the “Internal Wayfinding Feature” developed by Video Ideas.

Jerry Waddell of Video Ideas said, “PointsMap allows us to build a ‘Virtual Tour’ of the entire campus, as well as our satellite facilities, using PointsMap overlays to Google Maps. We can even map the ‘inside’ of each building, complete with internal floor plans that allow us to use PointsMap point-to-point Wayfinding. Every point on the map, inside or outside, functions like a ‘mini-website’. The points are all categorized and can contain photos, descriptions, links to videos, websites, PDFs, and more.”

New students and community visitors may embrace this technology whenever the campus holds special events, symposiums, concerts, and fine art presentations or specifies certain parking areas for each event.

The new “Internal Wayfinding Feature” allows use of smart phones to navigate from any point inside a building to any other point inside a building and provides a path drawn on the map showing the shortest route and displays turn-by-turn directions for navigation,” shares Waddell.

Using software only, PointsMap does not require any new equipment to be installed or maintained within the campus or buildings. It is a tremendous resource for Chattanooga State.
