Nightfall and UTC are banding together for a celebration during the final Nightfall show of the season Friday with a “UTC takes over Nightfall.”  In addition to the regular Nightfall schedule, UTC will kick off of the Mocs’ football season and fire up the crowd for UTC’s home opener on Saturday against Jacksonville State.  Headlining Nightfall this week is the traditional country band, the Malpass Brothers, preceded by local opener Magic Birds.

Starting with a pep rally by the UTC marching band at 6:30, the UTC coaches and football players will be introduced on stage at 6:45. Following the music by Nightfall’s opening band, Magic Birds, the UTC a cappella singing group, the Mockingbirds, will perform at 7:45, just prior to the performance by the Malpass Brothers.

Review for the Malpass Brothers:

Nightfall headliner Malpass Brothers will perform beginning at 8 p.m. Featuring North Carolina-based artists Christopher and Taylor Malpass, the Malpass Brothers are shameless supporters of traditional country music, reminiscent of the classic country, rockabilly, and honky-tonk songs of past decades. The brothers perform the music of artists who inspired them including Hank Williams, Sr., Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and The Louvin Brothers. They also write and perform original music that portrays those styles. “Our goal, really, is to see this music be revived, to help ensure it doesn’t fade away,” says Christopher Malpass. Having opened several tours for Merle Haggard, the music of the Malpass Brothers is developing a strong following throughout the country.

Review for Magic Birds:

Scott Bruce and Ben Ezell of Nightfall opener Magic Birds have been working together for a few years now. The local Chattanooga natives formed the band in 2012, and only worked on writing new music and testing them out at various open mic nights around Chattanooga. However, in late 2014, with positive feedback, they decided to become more serious with their music. They headed to the studio with Kan Munson to record their 2015 debut album, “The Music of Benjamin Bruce.” The band delivers their stripped down version of true Americana music, blending elements of country, folk, bluegrass, rock, and soul music.

Presented and produced by Chattanooga Presents, this 19-week free outdoor concert series is held every Friday at Miller Plaza and features headline performances by a broad spectrum of music performed by national and international artists.

Food trucks and non-alcoholic drink concessions are available on site at Nightfall. However, no outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought in to the event.

For more information on this free community concert series, call 265-0771 or visit NightfallChattanooga.com for a complete, interactive website that includes music samples by each headliner, as well as other information for first-time attendees.
