Lossie David Mahaffey, Jr., 80, of Soddy Daisy, died on Sunday, August 2, 2015.

He was a resident of Soddy Daisy since 1978 and a member of Rechoboth Baptist Church. David served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Sequoyah Nuclear Plant where he was an electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local 175. David was the Past Master of the Hixson Masonic Lodge #727 F&AM and a member of the Volunteer Masonic Lodge # 549 F&AM. He was a member of the Soddy-Daisy Kiwanis Club and the American Legion Post 201.

David was a volunteer for the Soddy Daisy Florist, Forget Me Not Florist and Flower Patch for many years delivering flowers. He was named as a Volunteer of the Year by the Hamilton County Department of Education.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Mary Mahaffey; parents, Ruby and Lossie Mahaffey, Sr. and uncle, Jessie Mahaffey. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Shelby Hawkins Mahaffey; son, Michael David Mahaffey, Sr. and wife, Janet; daughters, Patricia Ann Ernest and husband, Eddie and Cindy Simms and husband, Bill; brother, Tommy Mahaffey and wife, Samantha of San Jose, CA; sister, Frances McDonald and husband, Mac of Locust Grove, GA; sisters-in-law, Brenda Patten and Mary Hodge; grandchildren, Michael, Tessa, Lindsey, David and Taylor; great grandchildren, Landon, Jordan, Collin, Gabriel, Jaxon and Amelia Kate and several nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Alan Stewart officiating followed by a Masonic Service by the Volunteer Masonic Lodge #549 F&AM. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Visitation is on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
