Grace F. Womack, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
Kind and generous, she was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by many. She was born in Murfreesboro, TN, with her family eventually settling in Chattanooga. After graduating from Central High School, she met and married the love of her life, James L. Womack, Jr. Children soon followed, with Grace being actively involved in PTA, youth baseball, and all aspects of their lives. For over 20 years, she was a social worker at the Northside Neighborhood House, where countless families experienced her compassion and guidance. Grace was a woman of deep faith, with Red Bank Baptist Church being central to her life. An active church volunteer in numerous ways, she loved her Hope Sunday School class and she loved watching her granddaughter, Lauren Womack, growing up in the church. Grace enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading, and playing cards (as long as she didn’t lose!).
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Jim; her parents, Clara Mullenix Foley and James H. Foley; and siblings, Helen Foley Mills, James H. Foley, Jr., Jean Foley Jones and Tommy Foley.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Janet Womack (Beth Schapiro) of Atlanta; sons, Jim (Kim) Womack and daughter Lauren of Hixson, TN, Bob Womack (Terry Campbell) of Rossville, GA and Pat (Norma) Womack and son Hunter Conway of Trenton, GA; Norma’s children, Monica Bell, Rosie Douglas and Manny Garza; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 4-8 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel and on Friday, Aug. 7 from 9-10 a.m.
