Charges Dismissed At Grand Jury Level In Case In Which Teen Allegedly Planned To Kill Relatives

  • Wednesday, August 5, 2015

The Grand Jury has returned no true bills (dismissing the charges) in the case in which David Stanfield Jr. told police he fired a shot at a relative and meant to kill him, but was only going to fire once to avoid "overkill."

In the incident on June 25, police found 21-year-old Patrick Early in the front yard at 2905 E. 46th St. appearing to have breathing problems.

He said the 18-year-old Stanfield returned with a pistol after they argued when he told him to be respectful to their grandmother.

He said Stanfield raised the pistol and pointed it at him so he began to run away. He said he was able to retreat into the home, but a shot was fired at some point.

Stanfield said he got a pistol from his father's car after the run-in. He said he ran toward the victim and pointed the pistol at him, but he was unable to get off a shot before he ran around a corner.

He said had the victim been 20 seconds slower he would have been shot.

Stanfield said he had been "treated like ----" by Early, and he said his family did not help him.

A female told police that shortly before the incident that Stanfield sent a text to her saying he was going to kill his family, then himself.

Stanfield was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a violent felony, unlawful possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment.

His bond had been set at $50,000.
