Artful Yoga On The Row Is Saturday

  • Thursday, August 6, 2015

In celebration of the Hunter Museum of American Art’s latest Monet and American Impressionism exhibit, the museum is taking its ongoing “Artful Yoga” series out into the community with a special program in partnership with Warehouse Row and Yoga Landing, featuring “Artful Yoga on the Row: American Impressions on the Southside” on Saturday at Warehouse Row from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The free event will combine both yoga and art for a relaxing, holistic experience that engages the mind, body and soul, said officials.

Space is limited, so attendees are asked to reserve their spots by calling 531-6977 or going online.

The class will begin with a meditation walk and an open discussion on art and yoga in the presence of a large-scale reproduction showcasing a major work from the Hunter’s exclusive Monet and American Impressionism exhibit— with discussion guided by Hunter Museum Curator of Education Adera Causey. Immediately following, Yoga Landing owner and popular yoga instructor Jessica Jollie will lead yogis in healthful, calming exercises in an engaging yoga and music experience.

“Yoga and art are perfect complements to one another— reaching deep into your core to both simultaneously calm and awaken,” said Alexis Williams, director of Peace at Yoga Landing. “Artful Yoga on the Row is a wonderful opportunity to take a step back from the hecticness of life, surround yourself with art, reset your mind and surrender to your senses.”

The Hunter Museum’s Monet and American Impressionism exhibit features more than 50 paintings and 20 prints dating between 1880 and 1920 from renowned artists including Claude Monet, the Father of Impressionism, along with 25 American artists who helped launch impressionism in the West. Available at the Hunter through Sept. 20, this collection will only be presented in three cities— Gainesville, Fla.; Savannah, Ga. and Chattanooga.

While attendance for Artful Yoga on the Row is free, space is limited so participants are asked to RSVP by calling 531-6977 or registering online. Attendees are also asked to bring their own yoga mats. For more information, visit the Hunter Museum’s events page or check out Warehouse Row on Facebook and at www.WarehouseRow.com.
