Chattanooga area volunteers for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will throw a birthday party for the senator on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The event will start with a march from Miller Plaza across the river to Renaissance Park on the North Shore, where birthday cake will be served starting at 6 p.m.
Volunteers will provide information about the candidate who wants to get big money out of politics, battle global warming and income inequality in America, raise the minimum wage and offer free tuition to students at public colleges.
The march will start at 5:15 p.m. and end at Renaissance Park, where volunteers will staff a tent and provide literature on Bernie’s position on the issues.
This event is sponsored by Chattanooga Area for Bernie Sanders, a grassroots organization of like-minded citizens who want to see a country that is not dominated by the billionaire class.
Attendees will be encouraged (but not required) to make an $8 donation to the campaign that aims to create a political revolution in America. Similar events are being held around the country to demonstrate the power of small donations to a political campaign.
Mr. Sanders, the U.S. senator from Vermont who is seeking the Democratic Party nomination for president in the 2016 election, has been drawing larger crowds than any other candidate in either party, said officials.
