3 Sisters Music Festival Set For Oct. 2 And 3

  • Monday, September 14, 2015

An abundance of bluegrass entertainment will be showcased Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, during the ninth annual 3 Sisters Music Festival, hosted by Fletcher Bright Realty. Held at Ross’ Landing, this free, one-of-a-kind event will feature the top names in contemporary and traditional bluegrass.

The 3 Sisters Festival was recently recognized as “One of the Top 5 Bluegrass Festivals in the Country” by Great American Country magazine.

The event begins on Friday at 6:00 p.m. with music by local bluegrass favorites The Dismembered Tennesseans, followed by The Railsplitters at 6:50, the Grammy award-nominated group, Della Mae at 8:10, and the IBMA multiple award-winning group, Hot Rize, to close the night.

Tim O’Brien, Pete Wernick, Nick Forster, and Charles Sawtelle formed the band, Hot Rize, together back in 1978, and were known as the International Bluegrass Music Association’s very first Entertainers of the Year. Following the passing of guitarist Charles Sawtelle in 1999, Hot Rize re-grouped in 2002, adding Bryan Sutton to play the guitar.

Hot Rize quickly climbed to the top of the charts in 1979 with a then-new bluegrass Grammy, a four-star album review in Rolling Stone magazine, multiple world and national tours, and an army of up-and-coming, young musicians varying from String Cheese Incident to Chris Thile learning their songs and singing their praises.

On Saturday, beginning at noon, local band The Hamilton County Ramblers will kick off a full day of bluegrass entertainment as the 3 Sisters Festival continues. Bluetastic Fangrass will take the stage at 1 p.m., followed by The Lone Mountain Band at 2:00 p.m., Berklee College of Music Fiddlers at 3 p.m., Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper at 4 p.m., Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen at 5:30 p.m., Front Country at 7 p.m., and The Travelin’ McCourys, headlining the final set of the 3 Sisters Music Festival on Saturday beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The Travelin’ McCourys do not stand still. They are on the road—and online—entertaining audiences with live shows that include some of the best musicians and singers from all genres. It’s always different, always exciting, and always great music. Although raised and strongly influenced by their father, traditional bluegrass legend, Del McCoury, they are 21st century musical pilgrims and adventurers. They’re onto something new, just like Bill Monroe was in the 1940s.

3 Sisters merchandise and performer merchandise will be available for sale on site. Beer, food and non-alcoholic drink concessions will also be available. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets, however no outside food or beverages are allowed.

This year, the Folk School of Chattanooga will be a non-profit affiliate of the festival, with information on-site about the school and a chance to offer donations to their programs.

This event is sponsored by Fletcher Bright Realty and the City of Chattanooga and produced by Chattanooga Presents! For more information, visit www.3SistersBluegrass.com or call 423 265-0771.
