Thursday begins the national celebration of Constitution Week. It marks the 228th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of American by the Constitutional Convention.
The Daughters of the American Revolution, the largest women's patriot organization in the world, has long promoted patriotism through commemorative celebrations. On Monday, both Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke and Hamilton County Mayor James Coppinger signed proclamations proclaiming the week of Sept. 17-23, 2015, Constitution Week with representatives of the Chattanooga DAR Regents' Council present.
The Council represents the five DAR chapters in Chattanooga: Chickamauga Chapter, Chief John Ross Chapter, Judge David Campbell Chapter, Moccasin Bend Chapter, and the Nancy Ward Chapter.
The proclamations were presented to Mary Helms, manager of Local History and Genealogy Department at the Chattanooga Public Library. There the proclamations will remain on display for the celebration of Constitution Week Sept. 17-23, 2015.
