20 Featured Jobs With High Rates Of Growth And Shortages Of Skilled Workers

  • Thursday, September 17, 2015

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Labor Market Information Section has released a report examining demand occupations in need of skilled workers in Tennessee. The report gives a “top 20” list of jobs with faster than average growth spanning many industries to give current and future job seekers an idea of the job market.

“It’s clear there is a lot of impressive growth across the state,” said Commissioner Burns Phillips. “We’re going to continue to support employers, job seekers and training providers with these labor market reports so they can make informed decisions that will continue this economic momentum.”

Real time and standardized data of the featured bright occupations:
• Number of job openings by county for the occupation in a recent time period

• Number of candidates by county (resumes available in jobs4tn.gov in a recent time period)

• Tools and technology required by employers for current job openings listed

• Minimum required education levels in recent employer job listings

• Number of annual average job openings projected by local workforce areas

• Top industries employing those in the occupation

• Median annual wages by Metropolitan Statistical Area

• Career ladder opportunities (other jobs to which individuals in the occupation have moved)

In the four-county area made up of Davidson, Wilson, Rutherford and Trousdale counties, 50 openings were expected for industrial engineers, with the largest employment in motor vehicle parts manufacturing. Nearly 600 jobs were listed for customer service representatives in Davidson County, whose major employers were business support services and insurance carriers.
