Faulkner Defeats Dalton State Volleyball, 3-1

Faulkner University’s Lady Eagles (10-5, 3-1) left Bandy Gymnasium on the Dalton State campus Thursday with a 3-1 Southern States Athletic Conference win over Dalton State (4-6, 0-3).

The visitors took the first set by breaking a 15-15 tie and outscoring the Roadrunners 10-5 for the 25-20 set victory. Faulkner jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the second set and held on as Dalton State made a run that eventually pulled the hosts to within one point (24-23) before the Eagles scored for the 25-23 set win.

Dalton State trailed early (2-4) in the third set, but managed to build a 25-20 win after breaking an 8-8 tie with a 17-12 run.

The fourth set was also a game of runs. Following a 15-15 tie, the Eagles managed a 10-4 run for the final 25-19 score and the 3-1 match victory.

Kianna Delaney had 16 kills, four assists, one blocked shot and one assist. Marta Guntin tallied six kills, 10 digs and three blocked shots. Rafaella Martin Petrunko had 15 digs and six assists. Michala Askew had 30 assists and eight digs for the Roadrunners.

Dalton State travels to Panama City, Fla for a Friday match at Gulf Coast Community College at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
