UTC Downs UAB In Soccer Thriller 2-1

  • Friday, September 18, 2015
With the clock countdown booming out over the loudspeaker at Finley Stadium, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Samantha Hogan shot a pass into the box from the right side. It deflected back out and she sent it back in for another chance and sophomore Emily Moseley picked up the ball and flicked it in for the game winner as time ran out. The Mocs (2-6) grabbed victory from UAB (1-6) 2-1 Friday night at Finley Stadium.

“Unbelievable. You’re not a part of that very often,” UTC head coach Gavin McKinney said.
“It was a great effort from Sam Hogan to get the ball in and for Emily Moseley to finish it.”

UAB scored first, taking a 1-0 lead from a goal by Caroline Kerher in the 21st minute. Rachel Green sent a long pass that Kerher picked up just inside the 18 yard box and sent her shot past UTC keeper Katie Emig.

Late in the game, Hogan scored the game-tying goal. Sophomore McKenzie Gregg lofted a free kick from the far side to the near side. Hogan picked it up and her shot rang off the far post and past UAB’s keeper at the 82:07 mark of the game.

Chattanooga outshot UAB 12-9 with a slim 6-5 shots on goal advantage. UTC had all three shots in the final overtime and had four corner kicks.

The Mocs hit the road Sunday to take on Tennessee Tech to close out the non-conference slate. The game will kick off at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Live stats and streaming video will be available at GoMocs.com on the soccer schedule page.
