The election office took advantage of National Voter Registration Day to unveil its new website.

Election Administrator Kerry Steelman said the old version was long overdue for a makeover.

The design came from the office's web guru Nathan Foster, who said one step he took was to purchase a new domain - http://www.hamiltonelections.com. The old site of elect.hamiltontn.gov still works as well.

Mr. Steelman said, "Following the successful implementation of the $1.3 million in new voting equipment purchased with state Help America Vote Act grant funds, the next logical step was to update our antiquated website with a streamlined, easy-to-navigate layout.  The new mobile friendly design enables us to literally put more information at the fingertips of voters while improving the ease of use and timeliness of information provided.

"While continuing with our mission to improve the overall voter experience the new site is enhanced with more tools aimed at improving the candidates experience. The office serves not only the voting public, but also those who are seeking public office."

He said candidates will now be able to order voter mailing lists by using the website. When the order is completed it will be available for download through a secure FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

Mr. Steelman also said a new interactive map created by Hamilton County GIS provides a detailed street listing for all 130 precincts

Mr. Foster said the office will be able to post new information on the site much more quickly. He said previously it was necessary to have the items put on by the county webmaster. Now the election office will be able to post directly, he said.
