Dr. William L. Jackson, Jr. Named Erlanger Chief Medical Officer

Officials with Erlanger Health System announced the appointment of Dr. William L. Jackson, Jr. as the organization’s new chief medical officer at the hospital’s September 2015 board meeting.

 

Dr. Jackson will report to Erlanger President and CEO Kevin M. Spiegel and will assume his new role at the Chattanooga-based health system on Dec. 1.

 

Dr.

Jackson has served as chief medical officer for Alexandria Hospital at Inova Health System in Virginia, as well as associate system chief medical officer for Clinical Effectiveness.   He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. 

 

During his tenure at Inova, Dr. Jackson had several roles, including practicing as an intensivist at Inova Fairfax Hospital, the System’s 833-bed tertiary hospital.  He also led the Inova Telemedicine Institute as Medical Director for both the Fairfax and Alexandria Hospitals, and served as the first System Director for Adult Critical Care.

 

In his new role at Erlanger, Dr. Jackson will be working to expand opportunities for physician engagement throughout the Erlanger health system and advance a clinical agenda that supports Erlanger’s 975-member medical staff and outcomes critical to their success.

Dr. Jackson received his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, La and completed his postgraduate training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.   He completed his MBA at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

 

He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians.
