Alexis Burleson portraying God, and Tyler Steele as the serpent in a performance of “The Veil” in 2013.
The Unity Dance Troupe will continue Lee University’s fall U-Church series on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. There will be an additional opportunity to see the show at 3 p.m. on that day as well. The troupe will perform “The Veil: Redemption of Creation.”
According to Alexis Ziarkowski Burleson, Unity’s founder, “‘The Veil: Redemption of Creation’ is a production about life. Many times when the story of creation is told, the facts are presented, but God is portrayed as a distant Creator, One who only speaks. ‘The Veil’ shows God as a fun-loving, joyful Creator who takes pleasure in His creation of the world, and most of all His delight in forming man in His own image.”
Started by Ms. Burleson in 2010, Unity became an official club at Lee in 2012. The dance members incorporate jazz, contemporary, ballet, modern, and hip-hop styles into their choreography.
“The story of ‘Creation’ was inspired by a vision I had when I was 14-years-old,” said Ms. Burleson. “I was worshiping Jesus in my bedroom and I felt that Jesus was calling me to put on a production that would reveal the true heart of God for His creation.”
Unity Dance Troupe strives to expose the heart of God through dance. They also pursue the development of technique and the artistry of dance that promotes confidence and growth in the lives of students.
