The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer fell 1-0 to Furman Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium in Southern Conference action. The Mocs are 2-7-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference action while the Paladins improve to 8-4 on the year and 1-1 in league play.
Furman’s Abby DeMare scored her first goal of the season on a header in the 64th minute from Stephanie DeVita. DeVita picked up the ball on a corner kick on the near side and her shot was deflected by the Mocs keeper freshman Molli Miller (Maryville, Tenn.).
Chattanooga outshot the Paladins 7-5 in the first half but Furman picked up its offensive attack in the second half with a 13-7 advantage on shots. UTC redshirt junior Hannah Wyatt (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) had a team-high three shots with one on goal wile sophomore Abby Linder (Germantown, Tenn.), Emily Moseley (Nashville, Tenn.) and freshman Rachel Giampapa (Jackson, Tenn.) each contributed two shots in the match.
Miller made eight saves in her second start for the Chattanooga while Furman keeper Maggie Grisell had five saves. Furman had five corner kicks to UTC’s four.
The Mocs will hit the road this weekend for a pair of Southern Conference matchups at Mercer Friday night in Macon. That will be followed up with a game at The Citadel Sunday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.
