Huesman, Davis Named SoCon Players Of The Week

  • Monday, September 28, 2015
Coming off a 21-0 shutout at Presbyterian, the Chattanooga Mocs took home Southern Conference weekly honors on both sides of the ball, the league office announced today.  Senior quarterback Jacob Huesman was the Offensive Player of the Week, while junior defensive lineman Keionta Davis won the defensive award.

Huesman rushed for a touchdown and threw another as the Mocs improved to 3-1 overall.  He averaged 5.7 yards per carry, rushing 23 times for 132 yards. He was efficient in the pocket, completing 11-of-16 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.

With his 132 yards on the ground, Huesman moved into third place on UTC’s all-time rushing list with 3,183 career yards.
His 58th career touchdown pass gave him sole possession of fourth place on the league’s all-time list.

It is the second week in a row, and the 11th time in his career, Huesman has earned weekly recognition from the SoCon.  He is currently third in all-time SoCon weekly awards, trailing Georgia Southern’s Adrian Peterson’s 14 from 1998-01 and Appalachian State’s Armanti Edwards’ 13 from 2006-09.

Keionta Davis anchored a strong performance from the UTC defense Saturday to earn his first SoCon weekly recognition. Davis tallied a career-high five tackles, including a personal-best three sacks, which resulted in minus-13 yards. The junior was credited with three pass break-ups, a quarterback hurry and forced a fumble in the win.

Davis is second in the nation with six sacks on the year.  He is also No. 6 in the FCS with 8.0 tackles-for-loss.

The Mocs earned the shutout and allowed just 117 yards of total offense.  UTC was especially stingy in the second half, allowing just 8 yards of offense in the final 30 minutes.

Chattanooga is off this week and hosts Furman (2-2, 1-0 SoCon) on Oct. 10.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Finley Stadium.  Tickets are on sale now on GoMocs.com or by calling the UTC Ticket Office at (423) 266-MOCS (6627).
