The Signal Mountain Lions Club preparing the meat for the Labor Day barbecue.
The Signal Mountain Lions Club is preparing for their annual Labor Day barbecue, to be held on Monday, Sept. 7, at Althaus Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
“The Lions Club BBQ has been a Signal Mountain tradition since 1960,” barbecue chair Ralph Mann said of the annual event.
Barbecue plates with beans and slaw, bulk BBQ, hamburgers, bratwurst, hot dogs and funnel cakes will be available.
A drive-thru pickup option will be available, however those wishing to make a day of it can enjoy live music, a magician, a balloon maker, and a bouncy castle and slide.
All money raised will go into the club’s general funds to be distributed to community organizations such as the Mountain Education Foundation and Signal Mountain Library as well as area and national charities related to eyesight. The club distributed $30,000 last year that it raised through fundraisers including its Fourth of July and Labor Day barbecues and car raffle.
“Any money the Lions Club gets, we give back,” said Mr. Mann.
Weather permitting, the fireworks extravaganza will take place Sunday on the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club course around 9:45 p.m. The rain date will be Labor Day.
