Looking Under Rocks

  • Thursday, September 3, 2015

Looking under rocks is an appropriate title for what we face in this country.  We blame all Muslims for crimes most, nearly all, never commit.  We did the same thing and continue to this day for the myth of the black man.

If we are so diligent in keeping our eyes and ears open could we, really, think about this, could we say to someone, anyone, that they are a threat?   How did anyone know of the motives of the recent mass shooting in Chattanooga?  Did his parents know?  If they did, did they report their concerns to police?  Don't think we know that.  Is the guy that lives by himself down the street amassing firepower for the crime of the century?

The threat of Muslim radical is a real one, very real and we have no defense against the lone guy/gal on some mission for Allah or whomever.  Our innocence has been shattered and forever changes the mind and mood of every citizen in this town.

Was Jim Hammond correct in suggesting that the Muslim religion is akin to communism? Simple answer is no. He steps over the line with that comment but I don't blame Jim.  He is the guy enforcing the law and it his job and duty to protect.  But, how to protect against a mad man.  The answer is, we can't.

But this is what we can do. Are you concerned about the guy down the street that the kids say is "weird?" Pay attention, real attention to this concern.  Is one of your college buddies talking radical thoughts?  Pay attention, real attention, and do the correct thing, report him to authorities and maybe continue reporting.  Tattle tale, remember that from elementary school? The tattle-taler always gets punished or nearly always.  We are all victims of this story of what happens to the guy that tells.

I would take my chances in today's world. From some reports I have read the loner really isn't and someone nearly always knows.  I had a conversation with some local folk a while back. Small town USA. The same concerns are the small town but the small town has an advantage us big town don't and that is they know every person in that town and a lot about each of them. We have become, in this society, a collection of loners. We live next door or across the street from people we don't know and further don't make the effort.

We, in my neighborhood, suggested a fun time neighborhood auction. Two responded with items for auction. The lone wolf fella or gal could be closer then we think. Let us all be more diligent.
