Window World of Chattanooga will sponsor two Veterans Airlift Command missions on Friday, transporting Army Specialist Andrew Smith and Army Sergeant William Mullee, as well as their families, to Iowa for a friend’s wedding.
The VAC provides free air transportation to post 9/11 combat wounded and their families for medical and other compassionate purposes through a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots. These flights will mark the 85th and 86th VAC missions sponsored by Window World.
Army SPC Smith lost both legs 18 days into his first tour to Afghanistan. In addition to the amputations, SPC Smith also suffered severe injuries to his abdomen. SGT Mullee deployed to Afghanistan in April of 2012, three weeks later he lost his right leg and a portion of his left calf from an improvised explosive device blast. SPC Smith and SGT Mullee met the groom-to-be and fellow veteran, Taylor Morris, at Walter Reed while undergoing rehab.
Window World of Chattanooga is no stranger to aiding local military service members. Most recently, the team provided a donation and attended the “Nooga Strong Parade” on Sept. 16 honoring the deceased and supporting families affected by the shooting at the military recruiting and reserve center.
Window World of Chattanooga Owners Kim and Eric Anderson will be joined by Chattanooga employees to meet SPC Smith, SGT Mullee and their families upon arrival of their flight Friday.
