Harold B. Cummings III, 82, of Chattanooga, died on September 3, 2015.

Harold was born March 31, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia. He lived in Muscle Shoals, Al., from childhood to age 13, where his dad was employed by TVA.

He moved to Chattanooga, attended and graduated from Red Bank High School.  After graduating from Georgia Tech, Harold returned to Chattanooga as an electrical engineer at TVA for 36 years.  Immediately upon retirement he became an adjunct instructor in the engineering department at UTC for several years.

Harold was a former member of Red Bank Baptist Church, and since 1991, a member at First Baptist at Golden Gateway. A member of the Waters Sunday School Class and Sanctuary Choir, he was strong in his faith. He loved his family, engineering profession, and golfing at former Rivermont Golf Club and Valleybrook Golf and Country Club. His most favorite enjoyment was playing mandolin and composing Blue Grass Gospel music.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold B. Cummings Jr. and Mary Mitchell Cummings.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janie Quinn Cummings; Harold was the proud father of son, Kerry (Sherry) of Mt. Juliet, Tn., and daughter Angela Cummings of Chattanooga; he was the proud grandfather of Nicholas Cummings Samples of Chattanooga, Tessa Quinn Cummings of Mt. Juliet and by many loved “Cummings” and “Quinn” relatives.

Funeral services will be held in the Jack McEwen Memorial Chapel, First Baptist Church Golden Gateway with Doctor Thomas Quisenberry officiating at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Waters Sunday School Class and Sanctuary Choir.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace and one hour before the service at the church on Sunday.

To honor Harold’s missionary work at the orphanage in Honduras, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Orphanage Emanuel, 715 Moores Mill Drive, Auburn, AL 36830.
