  • Tuesday, September 8, 2015
In an overtime thriller on Tuesday at Oglethorpe Field, Anna Porch of the Covenant women's soccer team scored in the 93rd minute to defeat Oglethorpe 2-1 in the opening match of the season.

The Lady Scots now move up to 1-0 for the season, while the Stormy Petrels fall to 0-1.

Porch's golden goal came from a header off a Hannah King corner kick, which broke the tie and sealed the match. The score was Porch's 15th career score and fourth career game-winner. The assist was King's first of her collegiate career.

Covenant's first goal came in the 37th minute as senior Ruth Terry put away a penalty kick to give the Lady Scots a 1-0 lead.
Covenant held a 1-0 lead into halftime and outshot the host Stormy Petrels 10-3.

Oglethorpe's equalizer came in the 56th minute, after a Covenant foul led to a penalty kick that was put in the back of the net by Claire Stauber. However, the Stormy Petrels were unable to score any more, putting only three shots on goal.

The Lady Scots barraged Oglethorpe keepers Sarah Craig and Bailey Evans with 21 shots, 14 of which were on goal. Craig finished with five saves, and Evans stopped seven shots. Rachel Lemay, Covenant's freshman keeper making her debut, made a pair of saves to earn the victory.

The Lady Scots will face Agnes Scott on Saturday in Decatur, Ga. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
