Lee Potter Borders, 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Monday, January 18, 2016 in a local health care facility.  

He was born June 21, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Lee Arthur and Constance Beatrice Potter.

Lee began playing the piano and learned to golf at the age of eight. 

He moved to Dallas, when he was 14 and attended Highland Park Junior High, Woodrow Wilson High, and Southern Methodist University. During this time, he enjoyed racing cars with his then best friend and partner, Dudley.

He went into the service station and garage business upon moving to Chattanooga in 1949.  He began work selling cars at McKinney Buick in January 1950. 

Lee was the owner of a Buick dealership in Dayton, Tn., for 35 years and sold it in 1981. 

He served on the board at Bryan College and the Chamber of Commerce in Dayton, Tn.  He was an officer in the Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Red Bank for more than 50 years. 

He was an avid golfer who played every day. Upon his final retirement, he was a member of the Forrest Golf and Country Club in Ft. Meyers, Fl.  

He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and was baptized by previous Pastor Adam Dooley at age 80.  Lee and Carolyn were members of the Hall Sunday School Class where Lee played the piano.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth C. Borders.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn C. Borders; children, Kathleen Hayes of Plano, Texas; Lloyd (Theresa) Borders of Plano, Texas; Constance (Mike) Spradlin of San Antonio, Texas; Lee Gary (Nancy) Borders of Wetumpka, Alabama; sister, Ginny Richelson-Mabe of Hixson; Tennessee; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.      

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his eye doctor, Dr. Molly Seal at Erlanger.    

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Pastor Greg Hauss officiating. 

There will be no visitation prior to the service. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
