Wiley E. “Pewter” Wooten, Jr., 80, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday morning, January 19, 2016 at a local nursing facility.
“Pewter” was born July 12, 1935 in Cleveland, the son of Wiley E. Wooten, Sr. and Agnes Creasman Wooten. He was a lifelong resident of Bradley County and a 1953 graduate of Bradley Central High School. He was an active member of the Macedonia Baptist Church having served in many capacities. He was honored by the church in 2015 for having served 50 years as a deacon. He retired after 40 years of service with the International Brotherhood of Heat and Frost Insulators, Local 46, Knoxville, TN. He was an avid gardener and NASCAR fan and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Williams Wooten; sister, Betty Wooten Haskins; brothers-in-law, Melvin Haskins and Jack Ownby; and step-son, Charles W. Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Billie L. Bennett Davis Wooten; sons, Mike Wooten and Jeff (Jackie) Wooten; step-son, Bryan (Lisa) Davis; four grandsons, Brett Wooten, Blake (Angela) Wooten, James (Alexys) Wooten and Nash Wooten; step-granddaughter, Jade Gilreath (Luke) Wilkins; step-great-granddaughter, Wren Wilkins; sisters, Virginia Joyce Ownby and Linda Wooten (Jerry) Clevenger; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 23 at noon at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements, on Friday, Jan. 22 from 5-8 p.m.
