UTC Announces Football Staff Hires

CCS's Spence Joins Mocs Staff

  • Wednesday, January 20, 2016
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head coach Russ Huesman has rounded out his coaching staff for the upcoming season.  Veteran coaches Rob Spence and Carey Bailey join the staff, while former Moc Kadeem Wise is the new Director of Operations.

Spence and Bailey bring nearly 50 years of combined experience to the Scenic City.  Spence is coaching the receivers and has 16 years as an offensive coordinator at Clemson, Syracuse, Louisiana Tech and Toledo on his resume.  He spent the last two years as the head coach at Chattanooga Christian.

Carey Bailey, a former collegiate head coach at Howard University, takes over the defensive line.
He comes to UTC from Lamar University, where he was the defensive line coach for the last four seasons.  He has also coached the defensive line at Minnesota, Oklahoma State and Middle Tennessee.  A 1992 graduate of Tennessee, Bailey helped the Volunteers to a pair of SEC titles and led the team in sacks and TFLs as a junior.

"We had a lot of strong candidates for both positions," stated Huesman.  "Both Rob and Carey separated themselves in the interview process and will be outstanding additions to our staff."

Wise was an All-American defensive back at Chattanooga from 2010-13.  He is the only Moc in school history to be named All-Southern Conference in each of his four years.  He is currently fifth all time at UTC with 11 interceptions.

Wise graduated in December 2013 with a degree in Sport Management and was on the SoCon Honor Roll as a senior.  He has interned in various areas within the athletics department since graduating.

"Kadeem has been working his way towards a position in athletics administration and I think this is a great opportunity for him," added Huesman.  "He knows our program and will do a great job for us."
