University of Tennessee at Chattanooga students will practice their debating skills on Monday (today) in front of a luncheon audience at Chicken Salad Chick located at 629 Market Street. Representing presidential campaigns, each student will be asked questions that will allow them to stretch their debating skills and strategic thinking.
And while the debate will be held in front of a live audience, perhaps the most important person at the debate won’t even be one of the campaign representatives. Former CNN White House Correspondent Dan Lothian, will be providing critiques and insights from his decades-long assignment in Washington, D.C.
Reporting on four presidencies, Lothian has the expertise and political knowledge that will be fascinating to audience members and campaign representatives alike. Lothian is currently a Fellow in Residence in the University’s Communication Department.
“This is an excellent example of UTC students connecting with our community,” said Dr. Steven Angle, Chancellor, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. “Partnerships like this help our students excel and strengthen the bonds between our growing campus and this great city.”
Entry to the lunch debate is free; however, audience members are encouraged to pick up a lunch from Chicken Salad Chick and bring it back to the private dining area. The debate will start promptly at noon and end at 1 p.m. Audience members will receive free water, lemonade and tea from Chicken Salad Chick. The first 10 audience members will receive a free pound of chicken salad.
“The Downtown Council is pleased to host this program,” said Council President Joey Greer. “We know that many of the campaign representatives may someday work in political campaigns or offer themselves for public service. We’re pleased to provide a forum to assist them in honing their debating skills.”
