Cellphone audio was played in General Sessions Court on Tuesday allegedly from a man who had been robbed who repeatedly used the N Word and threatened to "lynch" the man who robbed him.
Judge Gary Starnes called the racial threats "appalling," but he said there was enough evidence to bind the aggravated robbery case to the Grand Jury against 20-year-old Jamil Mathis.
Dennis Floyd testified that he met Mathis for the first time while both were part of the making of a rap video at a residence in Highland Park. He said in the video that Mathis was holding a gun against his neck.
He said at the time he told Mathis that he would like to buy the handgun if he ever decided to sell it.
Floyd said he received a call from Mathis two weeks later saying he was coming over with the gun. He said it was last Thanksgiving Day and he was home with two small children.
He said Mathis had someone named "Stony" with him, who asked to use the bathroom. He said Stony got stuck in the bathroom and he let him out.
Then, he said, Mathis pulled the gun on him and said, "Where's everything at?"
He said Mathis told him, "If you move, I'll kill you."
Floyd said Mathis left after taking $150 and a rifle.
He said Mathis and Stony got into a silver Toyota Camry driven by "a fat girl with blonde hair."
The girlfriend of Mathis said the threatening calls came to her phone, which she said Mathis sometimes used.
One said, "You robbed the wrong white boy. I'm going to kill you. You deserve to be hung in a tree."
Another said, "I've already got about 15 N Word (s) looking for you."
Attorney Chris Dixon said, "I think Mr. Floyd's true character has been shown today."
