What I Would Say To Donald Trump

  • Sunday, January 31, 2016
If I were to speak with Donald Trump, GOP candidate and front runner for president, here is what I would tell him.

I am, have always been, and forever shall be, an FDR Democrat.  I was born a few months into FDR's first term in 1933 and grew up listening to his fireside chats with the people with my family on a battery-powered radio.  I switched parties in the last presidential election because the President and the Congress were no longer following FDR's policies of country and people first, buttressed by (1) an overwhelmingly strong military, and (2) help for the downtrodden created by a devastating depression plus living conditions and circumstances that left our state of
Tennessee and surrounding regions in peril.

In that first term he approved and signed the Act creating TVA reporting directly to the president with equal powers as any other federal department or agency, and put into place the WPA (Works Progress Administration) to put our people to work building roads, bridges, and other structures to stem spring rains flooding the crops we depended upon to feed ourselves as well as to save our homes.  Is there anyone out there who cannot understand the critical need to finish repairs to the Chickamauga Lock?  My full working career of 34 years was for TVA.  I know how important it is for this area.

I was eight years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed and remember it well.  I was 12 years old when FDR died and cried with all the other people of this country as his body was taken back to Washington by rail from treatment for the effects of polio.  World War II ended soon thereafter and I have never turned a blind eye to politics and the quality of the people who aspire to participate in it.

That is why I shall continue to vote for Senator Bob Coker for as long as he runs for public office, and that is why I shall be voting for Donald Trump for president.  I have confidence that Mr.
Trump's strong will and free and clear voice can establish a relationship with the Congress to work together for the betterment of the people, our country, and our standing in the world and, in so doing, propel us out of the quagmire our country has been led into by this Administration.

I firmly believe Mr. Trump has the integrity to follow through on his promises to the people of this country, especially those pertaining to our military, illegal immigration, out-of-control debt, our veterans, energy resources, health care, and all of those unnecessary and pesky regulations and executive orders.  And leave my body alone.  It belongs to me alone, free and unencumbered at birth.

God speed.
