Wrestling Notebook: Three Prep Tourneys Saturday

Wrestling fans have plenty to chose from Saturday as Walker Valley hosts a dual tourneys and Chattanooga Central and Soddy Daisy have traditional events.

* Central Invitational: Host Chattanooga Central is the defending champion of the oldest in-season traditional tournament started as the Red Bank Invitational by hall of fame coach Dr. John Farr in 1967 and soon thereafter moved to Central.

First Champion: Red Bank

Defending Champion: Chattanooga Central

Start Time: 9 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m. … Trackwrestling.com will have all the results.

Central also hosts a junior varsity meet tonight and a kids club invitational Sunday.

Competing teams: Chattanooga Central, Christian Academy of Knoxville, East Hamilton, East Ridge, Harpeth, Howard, Knox. Central, Rhea County, Sale Creek, Sewanee-St.Andrews, Shelbyville, Silverdale, St. Benedict, Tullahoma, Tyner, Union County

* Soddy Daisy: The Trojans host a nine-team event at the main high school gym

* Notre Dame Alumni Night: Thursday Jan. 21

The Irish host East Ridge and Boyd Buchanan

Alumni will gather at 5 p.m. and former head coaches  - Schaack Van Deusen, Yogi Anderson, David Held, John Mullin and current coach Rocco Mansueto - will be introduced prior to the first match at 6;

All former ND wrestlers are encouraged to attend the pre-match social at 5 p.m. and cheer on the Irish in their two matches.

UTC at Va. Duals

UTC is at the Virginia Duals this weekend … Mocs will compete in the national college division that includes Arizona State, Bucknell, Campbell, George Mason, Grand Canyon, No. 15 Iowa State, Kent State, No. 23 Old Dominion, Rider, The Citadel and No. 3 Virginia Tech.
