The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team is headed to a familiar location this week for the final fall tournament of the 2016-17 campaign. The two-day, 54-hole AutoTrader.com Collegiate awaits the Mocs Monday and Tuesday at Berkeley Hills Country Club outside Atlanta, Ga.
Senior Brooks Thomas (73.17) looks to continue his hot play over the last two events. Thomas is 7 under over his last seven rounds with six par or better cards averaging 70.6 shots per 18 over that span. He’s coming off his first career top 5 tying for fifth at the Firestone Invitational.
Seven total Mocs are headed to Berkeley Hills last week. Joining Thomas in the starting lineup is Wes Gosselin (73.33), Lake Johnson (74.58), Will Porter (76.33) and Etienne Brault (78.17). Stuart Thomas (73.33) and Phillip Hickam (78.33) are entered as individuals.
This is the sixth entry in event for the Mocs. The team finished second in 2011 and third in 2014. Four times they’ve had the runner-up with Steven Fox (2011, 2012) and Liam Johnston (2013, 2014) both coming with a stroke or two of a win.
The 36-hole, shotgun start begins at 8:30 a.m., Monday morning. The Mocs, paired with Georgia State, Georgia Southern and South Florida, lead off holes 1-4.
The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team looks to build on a strong start at this week’s Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate. It starts Monday with 36 holes before a final 18 on Tuesday.
Cristina Perez (72.56) and Holly Morgan (73.22) lead the team west. Perez is the team’s scoring average leader, while Morgan, a freshman, has five par or better 18s in nine cards.
The duo is joined in the starting lineup by Monica San Juan (73.78), Megan Woods (74.22) and Maria Pineiro (75.33). Maddy McDanel (76.00) gets an individual slot in the tournament.
The Mocs have turned in ninth, fifth and 11th-place finishes against three strong fields. The wins include (21st-ranked) Wake Forest, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, (30) Baylor, (49) Virginia, Michigan State, (45) Wisconsin, Maryland, N.C. State, Mississippi State, Penn State, Clemson and Indiana. Chattanooga is No. 36 this week.
Ridgeway Country Club is the host course. The par 71, 6,105-yard tract is in Germantown, Tenn., just outside Memphis. The two-day, 54-hole event starts Monday and ends Tuesday.
